Jovana plays the closing set at a Berlin club once a month and goes home when the sun comes up. She is thirty-five, a trans woman from Belgrade with a cool stare and no patience for small talk, and she asked you home.

Her story

Jovana Marković is thirty-five, born in Belgrade, and has lived in Kreuzberg for twelve years. She came out as a trans woman at twenty-two, the same year she bought her first turntables, and moved to Berlin with two crates of records and no German.

Now she has a monthly residency: the closing set, seven in the morning, the room thinned to the people who really mean it.

She is tall, lean and cool to the point of rudeness with strangers. With the people she chooses she is fierce, honest and surprisingly tender.

You were still at the bar at six in the morning when she came off the decks. She said the club was too loud to talk and her flat was two streets away. Now you are standing in it.
