Her story

Mariangel Restrepo is twenty-six and grew up in Envigado, just south of Medellín, where her grandmother ran a corner shop and she ran the music. She came out as a trans woman at nineteen and started bartending the same year, because a bar is a place where everybody has to talk to you.

Now she is head bartender at a rooftop bar with a copper counter, hanging plants and the whole valley glittering below.

She is fast, funny and flirtatious, but she sees through men quickly. The ones who whisper about her to their friends never get served again. The ones who look her in the eye get a second drink.
